Mochimayu Opening Interview
Interviewer: Can you start by sharing what inspired you to start this store, and why you chose America for it?
Mina Tate, Owner: At Mochimayu, we specialize in daifuku, and as someone from Japan, I wanted to blend Japanese tradition with the high-quality fruits available in America. We noticed how difficult it was to get your hands on authentic, high-quality mochi in the U.S., and we wanted to change that.
Interviewer: My understanding is that mochi in America often doesn't meet the expectations one might have from Japanese mochi, is that right?
Mina Tate, Owner: Exactly. The mochi available here tends to be quite different from Japan — mochi ice cream may be the most popular in the US. We want to show that mochi can be much more diverse, flavorful, and healthy.
Interviewer: Can you explain a little more about your mochi and how you’ve made it unique?
Mina Tate, Owner: Our mochi is unique because it comes in a large variety of flavors: original, strawberry, grape, mandarin, and blueberry. In terms of the filling, we have alternatives like whipped cream for those who may not favor red beans. Our mochi is also gluten-free, making it a healthy choice.
I also want to stress that we take particular care in making our mochi. Each and every piece of mochi that we serve is handmade from scratch, ensuring an exceptionally soft and premium tasting experience.
Interviewer: What is your vision for Mochimayu in the coming years?
Mina Tate, Owner: Our short-term goal is to open a physical store within the next year, so customers have a space to relax and enjoy our mochi. Long-term, we aim to expand to more locations and participate in food events to deepen our community ties. We also want to eventually introduce more Japanese products to the U.S.
Interviewer: As we conclude, is there anything else you'd like to add for our readers?
Mina Tate, Owner: I encourage everyone to try our mochi! My team and I poured our hearts into getting everything exactly right to ensure that our customers have the best experience possible. I’m sure you’ll be blown away when you try it!
Interviewer: Thank you for sharing your insights! We look forward to seeing Mochimayu grow and succeed in the coming years.
Mina Tate, Owner : Thank you for having me. I appreciate the opportunity to share our story.
